A devastating January fire damaged the Old Market’s Mercer Building at 11th and Howard Streets.
It was a somber scene. Fire crews battled the blaze for more than 10 hours in near-zero degree temperatures. Several homes and businesses — including M’s Pub, Nouvelle Eve, The Market House, and Niche — were lost in the fire.
While the building is being rebuilt, the Old Market Business Association and the University of Nebraska at Omaha have decided to team up for a beautification project of the fire-damaged corner.
The effort – titled Old Market Art Project – features 37 pieces from local artists made into colorful art banners that will hang on the fencing surrounding the construction.

The banners are expected to hang for one year.
