Any idiot who owns a camcorder can be called a filmmaker. I myself did it for a few years. But it doesn’t really matter if no one watches you (that whole tree falling in the forest thing).
Cornfed Video plans to rectify that. That’s right — I said rectify. How? With its *It’s Eating My Head video compilation.
*It’s Eating My Head contains 10 independent films made by people living in the same state as you (that would be Nebraska). The films cover such possibly interesting subjects as soft-core porn star Shannon Tweed’s contributions to society, a creature that destroys an army, the almost-exciting world of remote-controlled model airplane enthusiasts, plus other subjects too interesting to mention here.
By now, you’re probably wondering what the hell Cornfed Video is. Dorothy Booraem, a wrangler at Cornfed Video, describes it as a “distribution group that started for all these people we know that make short films.”
The goal is to build awareness for the “local indie film scene” in the Lincoln and Omaha areas. Booraem compares Cornfed Video to “those record companies that people start in their basement … for all their friends that are in punk rock bands.”
Your chance to see *It’s Eating My Head comes May 5 at the Joyo Theater at 6102 Havelock Ave. in Lincoln. You’re in the door for $2.
Before the movies there will be a 30-minute set by local band WYO, who, along with Project: Wet, have contributed music for the compilation.
But the fun doesn’t stop at the Joyo. That would be too easy. *It’s Eating My Head will also be available for rent at video stores in Lincoln so you can enjoy the magic again and again.
The plan is to get *It’s Eating My Head into video stores in Omaha. But if you can’t wait that long, tear yourself away from Web sites of ill repute long enough to check out www.cornfedvideo.com to find out how to order your own copy.
