Former White House Adviser to Speak April 12

The Department of Political Science at UNO will present “War Stories from the White House,” a free lecture by Richard Burress, at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.

Burress worked for Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan.

The presentation is open to the public and  will be held in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service Collaborating Commons.

 

‘Walk for Refugees’ is Focus of Global Youth Service Day

UNO will host a “Walk for Refugees” as part of the internationally-celebrated Global Youth Service Day on Friday, April 15.

Participants will walk from the UNO campus to Stinson Park, near 67th Street and West Center Road. Booths along the route will educate walkers about refugees, recycling, ecology, conservation and preservation. 

Global Youth Service Day activities will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. and will offer participants opportunities to clean Stinson or Elmwood parks, or plant trees.

Maverick Stampede is April 17 at Chili Greens

The UNO Alliance of Fitness Professionals, together with the Omaha Running Club, will host the Thirteenth Annual Maverick Stampede Sunday, April 17, at 9 a.m. at Chili Greens, 6808 Spring St.

Stampede participants can choose either a 4K or 8K walk/run.  A “fun run” will also take place for participants age 12 and under.

Registration for UNO students is $20.  General public is $30 if registered before race day.

The fee increases to $30 for students and $40 for the public on race day. The “fun run” is $12.

Blood Drive, Trivia Competition Part of 2011 Greek Week

Fraternities and sororities are hosting Greek Week at UNO Sunday, April 10 through Friday, April 15.

This year’s theme is “The Game of Greek Life.”

Planned Activities Include:

Tuesday, April 12

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., MBSC Nebraska Room

Student teams will compete in a trivia competition.

 

Wednesday, April 13

5:30 p.m., MBSC Outdoor Plaza

Greek Week relay

7 p.m., MBSC Ballroom

“Invisible Children” documentary

Thursday, April 14

12:50 p.m., College of Public Affairs and Community Service Room 101

“Invisible Children” documentary viewing

7 p.m., UNO Pep Bowl

Students will compete in the 2011 Theta Chi Olympics.

Friday, April 15

9 p.m., Thompson Alumni Center.

To raise money for the Omaha Food Bank, Lambda Chi Alpha will host “Jail House Rock.”
