The UNO baseball team took two road wins at Southwest Baptist on Friday. The Mavs (5-2, 3-1 MIAA) beat the Bearcats 8-2 in game one and 8-3 in game two. UNO rebounded to win the last three games of the four-game series against the Bearcats after dropping Thursday’s opener 11-8.
Junior outfielders Martin Sartin and Trevor Gappa combined for seven hits in Friday’s doubleheader, including four RBIs and four runs scored.
Game One:
UNO 8, Southwest Baptist 2
Senior Jed Hanson went 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs batted in and three runs scored as the Mavs cruised to an 8-2 victory. Sophomore pitcher Derek Landis (1-0) earned the win, striking out five batters and giving up no hits and no walks in 2.1 innings.

Game Two:
UNO 8, Southwest Baptist 3
Mav Sophomore Tyler Spilichal hit his first home run of the season and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. First baseman Martin Sartin was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, an RBI and two walks. Junior Cory Buckley (1-0) was the winning pitcher, going three innings in relief.
