Mavs sweep Griffons, extend win streak to three

The UNO Women’s Tennis team seems to be hitting its stride when it matters most.

The Mavs, winners of three straight matches, defeated Missouri Western 9-0 Friday in St. Joseph, Mo.  The win moves Nebraska Omaha into fifth place in the conference standings just nine days before the MIAA Championships.

Traci Moklestad led the Mavs Friday.The junior defeated the Griffons’ Nicole Kerr 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles competition and teamed up with fellow Mav Kelsie Olsen to beat Mindy Buschbom and Sophia Robertson in No. 1 doubles, 8-1.

In No. 2 singles, Olsen defeated Buschborm again for her second victory of the day. The junior Grand Island native won 6-0, 6-2. Samantha Thomas defeated Sophia Robertson 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3 singles and Heather Hottman beat Katie Field 6-1, 6-0 in No. 4 singles to help pace the Mavs.

The Mavs return to action Tuesday at Noon as they host Nebraska-Kearney at the Hanscom Park Tennis Center.
