The Omaha volleyball team opened up the home portion of their 2021 schedule with a 3-1 win over the Weber State Wildcats last Thursday, giving the Mavericks their third win of the fall season.
Omaha took the first set 25-18, second set 25-17 and the fourth set 25-22 to close out the win. Weber State made it interesting, as the Wildcats won the third set by a 25-20 final and kept it close throughout most of the night.
The Mavericks used a pair of 7-1 runs to take the first set and a 7-2 run, which was pivotal in the second set. Omaha jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the fourth and final set and never looked back in the back-and-forth contest.
Four Mavericks notched double-figure kills in the match, led by Sadie Limback, who had 19. Limback also added two digs and five block assists. Mariah Buss added 12 kills and Rachel Fairbanks had 11.
Sami Clarkson finished with a double-double herself in the win, tallying 47 saves and 11 digs. Claire Mountjoy, who recently became the program all-time digs leader, recorded 32 of her own.
The Mavericks closed out the weekend with a 3-1 loss to Kansas State on Saturday, which dropped the Mavericks to 3-7 on the season. Omaha faces St. Thomas on Thursday, Sept. 23 to open Summit League Play.
