I am writing to express my overwhelming disapproval of UNO’s decision to eliminate the Learning Center.
The Learning Center offered tutoring in a wide variety of subjects, as well as study skills and test preparation. It was also a quiet place to study, with computers and a variety of reference guides handy.
As a former tutor, I came to fully recognize the importance of being able to communicate effectively through writing. At the Learning Center, we tutors did not merely check grammar. We demonstrated the proper ways to outline, construct and polish a report. Our services were important to the academic wellbeing of many students at UNO.
Closing the Learning Center is a great disservice to students. The reverberations will be felt throughout campus.
