With their Central Collegiate Hockey Association schedule over with, the Maverick hockey team no longer has their destiny in their own hands.
While the Mavericks are away Saturday playing the second leg of a non-conference home-and-home series in what is affectionately known as the “Maverick Cup” in Mankato, Minn., the rest of the league is determining the seeding for them.
UNO currently sits in a tie with Northern Michigan for fourth place with 30 points. Western Michigan sits in fifth place with 29 points, and will overtake the Mavericks if they get even one point against Michigan. Even if the “nothing to lose” bug bites Lake Superior State this weekend, and they sweep Northern Michigan, the Wildcats will still earn the fourth spot due a better head-to-head record and a better conference record than UNO.
As it stands, UNO is looking to play Ohio State if they finish sixth, and Notre Dame if they finish fifth.
