To help students learn how to prevent and get rid of college debt, Marco LeRoc & Co. will hold a free forum on April 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Mammel Hall auditorium.

Marco LeRoc, a certified educator in personal finance, is the author of “Screw College Debt” and “Cash in with Your Money.” LeRoc and his team of experts will offer extensive insight about college debt and personal financial development.

Outstanding debt in the United States reached $1.2 trillion as of May 2013, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. You could be one of 62 percent of college students graduating with $26,490 worth of debt in Nebraska.

LeRoc is passionate about motivating young adults to better manage their money, stemming from his own mistakes during his college experience.

“My goal is to emphasize the importance that you can do something better for yourself,” LeRoc said.

LeRoc has shared his wealth of information with different organizations in the U.S. and internationally through public speaking engagements. On several different occasions, LeRoc has also spoken to students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Creighton University, Metropolitan Community College and metro area high schools.

The forum will feature the following experts: Dean Obenhauer, assistant director of financial aid at Creighton.

During the forum, experts will discuss the following:
 ● How to manage college debt
● How to find scholarships
● How to be successful in college
● How to find value in your own college
Forum attendees will learn the concept of personal financial development and ways they can become debt-free.
“I see a lot of people who don’t have the courage or don’t have the motivation to achieve their financial goals,” LeRoc said.
LeRoc sees financial literacy as personal development.
“If you become better with your  money, you can better yourself,” he said.
A percentage from the sale of LeRoc’s book “Screw College Debt” will be given to The Hope Center for Kids, a local non-profit organization that provides  mentorship to youth through after-school programs, classes and events in north Omaha.
“Screw College Debt” and “Cashing in with Your Money” can be found on LeRoc’s website. To learn more and pick up copies of his books, visit: marcoleroc.com.
