UNO’s cross country team will co-host their season-opening meet on Saturday at Chalco Hills in Omaha. Creighton University is the co-host for the event that features six teams from Nebraska and one from Iowa.
Along with UNO, which only sports a women’s team, Creighton, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Iowa, Midland Lutheran College, Hastings College and Dordt College will bring both men’s and women’s teams to the meet.
Head coach Tim Hendricks acknowledges that this will be a challenging run for UNO.
“It will be by far the toughest opener we’ve had,” Hendricks said.
Michelle Ellingston looks to be the anchor for UNO. Ellingston won the NCC 5,000 run last spring at the North Central Conference meet and should be one of the favorites in the meet Saturday.
“I think she will take off right where she left off last year,” Hendricks said. “She could be one of the top three in the race.”
The women’s portion of the meet begins at 10:30 a.m. at Chalco Hills.
