Baseball prepares to be road warriors again in 2013

Just because the UNO baseball team is the new team on the block doesn't mean they intend on easing their way into Division I baseball. In their second official year as a D-1 baseball team, and first as a full-time Summit League member, Head Coach Bob Herold wants to dive right in, especially when it comes to scheduling.

Simply the best

What makes someone the best at what they do? Does it take breaking and setting new career records? Is it consistency over a long stretch of time? Does it take some sort of validation from one's peers?

In America, baseball has produced more heroes and more arguments about who's the best than perhaps anything else in sports history.

McCord inks deal with Brewers

At the conclusion of senior Colby McCord's UNO career, the Papillion native ranked ninth all time in games played with 163 and served the Mavs at catcher, first base and even put in some time on the mound. In four years McCord posted a career .324 average, homered nine times and knocked in 77 runs.
But Major League Baseball didn't come calling at the three-day draft June 24-26. It took a few extra weeks, but McCord's talent and consistency were eventually recognized.

Rough week for UNO up north

Two weeks after UNO ended North Dakota State's 16-game winning streak, the Mavs have yet to find their own winning ways and have lost eight of their last nine.  In the middle of a stretch that includes 15 games on the road, the Mavs lost games last week 8-4 and 1-0 to Minnesota, then 4-1, 4-3 and 5-4 in 11 innings to future Summit League opponent Oakland.

UNLV offense explodes against Mavs

For the second week in a row, the UNO baseball team was only able to scratch out one win in a four game series and have now dropped to 11-25 on the season.

Mavs end home series with win, snap Bison streak

North Dakota State came to Omaha to face UNO in their final home series of the year with a nation-leading 13-game winning streak.  After scoring late to earn a 7-4 victory on Friday, the Bison dominated UNO at Werner Park on Saturday 8-1 and 7-0.

Baseball disappoints at Werner Park

UNO's only home series of 2012 was set up to be the year's premier event.  The Mavs had the chance to play in front of the home crowd at the new Werner Park, and the seniors were being honored in between games of a double header.

Baseball downs Iowa, gets swept at IPFW

After beating Creighton at TD Ameritrade last Tuesday, UNO ended the week with a victory at Iowa and then fell in a sweep at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.  Pitching and defense once again guided the way in a 3-1 win at Iowa City, but the Mavs were shut out in their first game against IPFW, lost a 6-3 decision on Saturday, then dropped 13-7 decision on Sunday.
