The history department's World Civilizations Film Series kicked off its second year on Friday, Feb. 24, with a screening of the 1947 film, "Crossfire." The series is the brain child of a group of World Civilization instructors, said organizer Jo Behrens.

Omaha's 15th annual Taste of Omaha proved to be a success as the Heartland of America Park and Lewis & Clark Landing was flooded with people all weekend long.

Named one of the 10 "coolest" Midwest cities by MSN.com earlier this year, Omaha absolutely deserves the title.
Coming far from being considered a "beef-infused" farm state, the Omaha metro has become a petri dish for culture and creativity, encouraging entrepreneurship and professional advancement.
 

As winter drags on in Omaha, we have to find a way to entertain ourselves and beat the cold weather blues. The Tiny Car Racing Association offers this relief weekly at The Waiting Room in Benson.

The Benson Theatre Project will be hosting a special Toons & Brews event on Feb. 22 at the Pizza Shoppe Collective in Benson.  
Toons & Brews will feature works by artist Jeff Koterba, beer tastings provided by New Belgium Brewing and food from The Pizza Shoppe.
The exhibit will open at 7pm, and Koterba will be giving a talk at 8pm.
 

It seems as we go further into the 21st century, our desire for better means of communication is increasing rapidly.  
Cell phones are designed around social media outlets like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.  We are always seeking ways to make our computers faster.  People want to share every small detail of their lives, and they want to be able to do it instantaneously.
But, all too often, lost in the mix of Tweets, Instagrams and status updates, are the relevant and substantial topics.  For some, sharing intimate details about love lives is acceptable, but when it comes to discussing religion or politics, comfort zones are then breached.
Project Interfaith is an initiative in Omaha dedicated to providing a forum for open and respectful learning and interaction about identity, religion, belief and culture.  On Thursday, Jan. 31, Project Interfaith will host their fourth "Speed Dialogue" at the Urban Abbey on 10th and Jackson Streets.

Although walking on stage to Justin Bieber's "As Long as You Love Me" was not my first choice, I was absolutely ecstatic to be part of the Journal Broadcast Group's 2013 Bridal Fair.
The Bridal Fair took place Jan. 6 at Centurylink Center. Everything wedding related was there to greet engaged couples, from Jone-Z Party buses to DJs and music for receptions. My duty, as well as the rest of the models from Image Modeling, who has been a part of the event since 2010, was to put on a fashion show to give all of the soon-to-be brides and grooms ideas for their special day.
